| I know, this will probably upset some of my more politically-minded readers. I think we; as christian conservatives; are missing something great that God wants us to learn. There is a great opportunity for us over these next 2-4 years. Something Pastor Clint said really hit me hard yesterday. He was talking about the reason Jesus came: the salvation of our souls. He went on to speak about the great commission and how many of the people listening to it were expecting Jesus; after his resurrection; to now overthrow the Roman empire in Israel and deliver them from worldly oppression. When Jesus gave the great commission and ascended into heaven, many were surprised, as his purpose and message were far different than they expected. How the gift that God gave through His Son was far greater than anything they had expected. To add to this; we live in the age of the Pharisees. To clarify; I believe we are living in a dire time where many of those who invoke the name of Jesus do so in a way that is either meaningless, vulgar or insulting to God. We have those who are put in positions of power and infulence in what is now only called "the church", that overtly condone and participate in sin (I was going to say "the gravest of sin"; but that would imply that there is a scale to our depravity - contrary to God's word; "For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God"). The Word makes clear that there is special punishment for these Pharisees that lead others astray. In conclusion; I think we're taking the political oppression we are feeling, and the oppression of sinful leaders inside the "church" (I use that word loosely) the wrong way. We are commissioned by Jesus Himself to bring light into every dark corner and unapologetically speak the truth to those who have lost their way. As C.S. Lewis so aptly pointed out; God is more concerned with our character than our comfort. This time of political and spiritual darkness has a purpose. Our time to shine is now and our commands are clear. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to empower us to take the Good News to everyone. We are in the right place (America) at the right time to ensure that a Godless generation hears the Gospel of Jesus. The political persecution we are feeling is meant to strengthen us and separate the sheep from the goats. To refine us through fire and put our faith to the test so that we may be more effective. I think a lot of us are losing our focus because we are focusing so much on what we have lost politically. Not to mention how people who teach and believe the Bible are called "intolerant" because they openly speak against sin. Although I know that God cares about that; he is more concerned with making us more effective christians. This is very evident in the life of Christ. He came to do something far greater than save Israel from Roman oppression; he came to save ALL of our souls from hell and deliver us into an eternity in His presence. In order to retain proper respect and perspective, I've had to turn off political commentators and get into the word more deeply. Although political commentators are great, I encourage everyone to spend less time listening to them and use that time to study you Bible instead. Not that they're wrong or irrelevant, but I believe they are distracting believers from what they need to be doing. My challenge to everyone is to make it through the entire Bible; front to back; before the end of the year. It will change your life. Yes, there are some dry passages, but skipping them really makes you miss how truly incredible the sinless life of Jesus was and how utterly impossible it is to be truly clean and blameless in God's eyes. This will help you understand the importance of what Jesus did on the cross and how truly helpless we are without His grace. I have been reading Machel's Blog lately, and God has really been convicting me of a lack of evangelism (overall complacency) in my life through that blog. But I know my place is not shouting on the streetcorner. I know where God has been calling me, and I believe that the Word is refining me to bring the truth to a certain group. | | |
| Good morning. I hope that everyone will check this Blog, take my advice and do so quickly. Everyone who reads my blog needs to contact their congresspersons immediately. You can do this over the internet via an email or you can call your congressperson's office. I have felt in my heart that there is a time for silent prayer, but that time has ended. Not that we need to stop praying; quite the contrary. We need to pray more furvently than ever, but we need to take action as Americans and as Christians. The current stimulus bill before congress is a disaster in motion. It is the greatest redistribution of wealth in our world's history and will reduce the greatest capitalist nation on Earth to a socialist state. It enables laziness through a feeling of entitlement, and God is very clear about his feelings toward laziness. In addition; it purposely excludes institutions and schools that "allow" religious worship of any type on their campus; as well as including hundreds of millions of our dollars for pro-choice and other special interest groups that are specifically anti-christian or reject family values. In addition; our president has recently appointed some of the most crooked, dishonest and hypocritical men in politics to positions of great influence. Eric Holder, Timothy Geithner and several others who were not rejected by congress have been allowed into some of the most influential political positions in the world. Praying for a change of heart in these people is a noble pursuit, but we need to also be taking action to protect our country, our children, and our right to religious freedom. The bottom line is that unless our congress people take action; our country is on a steep, slippery slope to complete moral deficit and self-destruction. They are running down this slope at a staggering pace and jumping headlong into the destruction that awaits them; and we are tied to their backs. The only two things we can do at this point are pray and write our congresspeople. My hope is that everyone who reads this blog is already doing the first. But we need to do the second or our congresspeople will never hear our voices. If we are silent in this matter, then we are accountable for our silence (James 4:17). | | |
| I am trying to pay attention to politics in the news. Of course, I am trying to get a fairly balanced view, so I watch Fox news. I have found that regardless of the channel; it seems as if the media is thriving on fear. Liberally-biased media is trying to tell us the country is doomed to failure and poverty without the current "stimulus" bill (which is actually a massive [over]spending package that redistributes the wealth of America and encourages dependency on the government, creating a socialistic state). The conservatively-slanted news tells us that the passage of the "stimulus" bill will spell the certain collapse of the American economy and doom our children and grandchildren to poverty (which I happen to agree with). But regardless of the details, there is an evironment of fear and distrust building, attempting to give influential power to those who we watch on the news. A single verse resounds in my mind over and over as we face one of the most evil regimes in American history. We have a president who is on par with the worst of the world's leaders, his appointees for offices are crooked through and through; some of the most manipulative men and women in history that are convincing us that their criminal actions make them worthy of promotion... Many have quoted the verse that says that the Lord directs the path of a king. That I do not doubt, but our country is on a path so self-destruction and judgement, and I believe our leaders are in place to accellerate that process and separate the sheep from the goats inside the church. The verse that keeps coming to mind is instead 2nd Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity [fear], but a spirit of power, of love and of self discipline [a sound mind]." So in these times that we face the worst enemy of all that is holy and right; we must stand in the word and pray for the redemtion of VOTERS so that we may have righteous leaders once again. We must not give into the fear that grips our neighbor, but realize that the Name of the Lord gives us power to stand for what is right. | | |
| Over the last few weeks, I have had several conversations with many intelligent men about our politicial situation. We all agree on one point: The election of Barack Obama proves that racism and racial separation still exist and are an issue in this country. The reason why I say this is not because Barack Obama is an African American. It is because we have to use the term "African American" instead of just "American." It is because people once thought to be conservatives (Colin Powell is a perfect example) endorsed Barack Obama because of the color of his skin. One of the men that I had asked about this; and he agreed with me; was a racially-mixed gentleman who is very intelligent, serves our country in the military and is a good friend. He stated that if racism and racial separation didn't exist in the US, the color of his skin would never have been brought up during the election. No one would have endorsed him based on anything but his ideas. I totally support an African American man, woman or any other ethnicity or people group being in the office of president. I just don't agree with Barack Obama's ideas. that is why I did not vote for him. I think he is a marxist/socialist/communist and that's not what our country needs. But my mother brought up a good point. Rick Warren echoed it on his interview with Fox News over the holiday. We are supposed to be praying for our leaders. And if anyone needs prayer, it is Barack Obama. | | |
